"Mother you are disrespecting the mer I love," Yu Tong said to Second Madam Yu who simply looked at her and started to laugh.

She chuckled with her hands over her mouth before wiping a tear that was sticking at the corner of her eyes, she then said, "Do you think I am disrespecting him? No Tong'er, I am speaking the truth. You might be lost in your own world thinking that you can live a wonderful and happy life but that is not how the world works."

Second Madam Yu's gaze turned stern as she looked at Yu Tong and interrupted her sternly, "Yu Tong, do you know why I married your father?"

Yu Tong frowned. She could not understand why her mother was bringing her father up at this moment. Were they not discussing the reason for the engagement between her and Murong Si?

"Because he was the prettiest mer?" Yu Tong offered with a subtle questioning note.

"No, because I liked him," Second Madam Yu corrected Yu Tong. "Do you have any idea how upset I was when I found out the truth?" Second Madam Yu stared at his daughter in the eyes and then continued, "You might think stupidly in your youth that love is everything but it's not. Listen to me and marry Murong Si.

He might be a cold mer but he is a decent mer and also educated, if not for the fact that you are related to Yu Dong, his mother would have never agreed to engage you with him but she agreed on account of Yu Dong and me."

"You will be happy with him."

"But I don't love him! Why do you have to force me to do something that I do not wish!" Yu Tong's voice rose causing the workers to stop and look at Second Madam Yu's office. They exchanged curious glances with one another before looking away as they noticed Second Madam Yu glaring at them. "Can you not care a little about me?

If I marry Lin Hanjing then I will be happy, whatever happens, I will deal with it, why must you do this to me?"

"Are you questioning me? Your mother?" Second Madam Yu questioned as she looked at Yu Tong feeling even more uncomfortable. The fact that Lin Hanjing was not even married and yet Yu Tong was confronting her as this made, Second Madam Yu really upset. She glared at her daughter and then said, "I am your mother, will I do anything to harm you?"

"Haven't you already?" Yu Tong retorted with an annoyed expression, tears brimmed in her eyes. "You left me to die on that day why must you act like my mother? You have something in this marriage, right? You are getting something out of it."

"How could you do this to me——"

SLAP.

The sound of the slap echoed in the office as Second Madam Yu dropped her hand that was stinging after slapping Yu Tong.

"I can do this because I am your mother and unless you want to have the blood of a mer on your hands, you will marry Murong Si. His family is really strict that if the engagement fails then Murong Si will caged and thrown in the river to die as he would be considered a jinx for his siblings," Second Madam Yu told Yu Tong.

There was a reason why she chose Murong Si and this was it. She knew that if she was to force Yu Tong like this she would marry Murong Si, she had to make sure that her daughter would not be able to escape the trap that she had set for her.

"Cough!" Yu Dong choked on her drink as she looked at Mammy Lin who returned after dealing with the seeds and orchards.

She spat out the fruit juice that she asked Zi Zan to squeeze out of the orange and then questioned, "What do you mean by that Yu Tong is engaged to the Murong family's mer? I have never heard of such a thing."

"It's true, Madam Yu. The Murong village lies in between the Stone Village and River Village, thus when I passed by the Murong village, I found out that the son of the village head was engaged to Murong Village's head," Mammy Lin spoke to Yu Dong who turned to look at Gu Ke Jin.

Ever since what her sister did, Gu Ke Jin had been walking around Yu Dong on eggshells, though Yu Dong said that she and Gu Mu were two different people and she was not going to punish her for what Gu Mu did, Gu Ke Jin was still very careful around Yu Dong.

Thus, when Gu Ke Jin saw Yu Dong look at her, she lowered her head and replied, "Mammy Lin is right. We did hear about their engagement."
