Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 198 We Are Not The Same, After All

"A hundred what?" Shang asked, standing from the bench as Kai walked over to the court with the other players. "A hundred what, Kai?"

However, the tall player didn't respond.

Then, Shang sat back down as they started assuming their positions.

Shang sighed in disappointment, his eyes closed, and his fists clenched in front of his chest.

"I'm afraid I will never know the answer," he muttered.

Meanwhile, the Shizi Dogs and the Longyu Dragons finally engaged in the last half of the game.

The two teams didn't change the lineup as much.

In fact, the Longyu Dragons kept the same line-up with Guri.

At first, Fenhua decided to have their starting players during the first half so they could create a relatively large gap. Then, on the second half, he planned to dispatch their less-skilled players so they could have a taste of what it was like to play against an underrated team.

However, seeing as they were in a tie and with the court at stake, he decided to keep the current lineup.

Guri stood before Kai once again, feeling more annoyed when he saw that Kai wasn't sweating in the slightest.

He clicked his tongue and looked at Kai with a determined gaze. Discover exclusive content at empire

'I'll stop you,' he thought.

Guri didn't think he would find a rival in a team residing in the distant city of Jilin. However, he wasn't really complaining. Having a rival was exciting.

However, beating said rival would be even more exciting!

With that, Guri was ready to give it his all and show Kai the strength of the Longyu Dragons.

True to his words, Guri guarded Kai more intensely. He moved at a fast pace, causing Kai to frown.

'He's different,' Kai thought.

He passed the ball to Jinping. However, Jinping was no match for Fenhua, who moved at a faster pace, leaving him behind.

Lina clicked her tongue and brought out her notebook, going to the next page.

"We have a lot of weaknesses," she muttered.

Zeren, who was on her side, poked her shoulder.

"Not me, though, right?" he asked with wide eyes. Lina didn't reply and continued observing the game.

Guri then noticed that Fenhua was trying to score from the three-point line. However, Kai was coincidentally right in front of him.

Guri signaled Fenhua to continue his play as he set up a screen.

With that, he stood next to Kai, who was still oblivious to their silent play.

Guri smirked. It was time to show him the strength of the man he called a gorilla! He'll show him what a true gorilla was like!

However, his smirk quickly dropped when he felt a great force against his chest.

It wasn't the normal type of force that should come from a human. It seemed almost otherwordly—like a boulder hit him instead.

Before he knew it, he had toppled to the ground, his back hitting the cold, hard floor.

Everyone stopped what they were doing when they heard a loud bang.

Kai's eyes widened as he reached out for Guri's hand. "You were there? My bad," he said, making Guri feel even worse.

It didn't necessarily hurt.

However, his pride was hurt—which was much, much worse, in his opinion.

On the other hand, the Longyu Dragons couldn't believe their eyes.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

They were already aware of Guri's power. He was in the top three on their team despite him being a first-year player.

However, Kai, who had the same build as Guri, wasn't even fazed?

Guri didn't take Kai's hand and stood on his own. He was still a bit light-headed, not from the impact but because of disbelief.

He couldn't believe that just happened!

The game continued, and with Guri's absent-mindedness, it appeared like the odds weren't in favor of the Longyu Dragons.

Fenhua clicked his tongue as Yuze blocked him once again.

He was a proficient player. However, it couldn't be denied that his height was his biggest disadvantage. Nonetheless, he had the highest score among their team.

However, that seemed to not be enough as the Shizi Dogs were already leading by five points.

50-55.

"Two more minutes!" Dylan called out.

Fenhua sighed in frustration. He wanted to prove something today, but it seemed like the universe had it out for him.

However, he also believed it was partially his fault.

He was greedy...

...and he underestimated the Shizi Dogs.

On the other hand, Yuze felt even more fired up because Kai still had the most points in their team.

With this, he was able to play even better, which led to him suppressing Fenhua.

In a way, Kai had a great influence on him in the game. He could feel a dull ache on his ankle from working too hard, but he once again ignored it.

If he couldn't even play as such during practice games, then how would he hold up during the actual tournament?

"Snap out of it," Fenhua said to Guri, finally snapping the younger player back to reality.

"We do play similarly, right?" he asked for reassurance.

Fenhua didn't respond, so Riley responded for him.

"You do," he said. "However, with how things are going, it looks like he's much better than you."

"He's not!" Guri exclaimed, now seemingly back to normal. "I'll show you!"

Riley and Fenhua scratched the back of their heads.

"He's really simple-minded," Riley remarked.

Guri glanced at the scoreboard and saw that there was only a minute left.

There was a two-point gap between the two teams, so a three-point shot was the Longyu Dragon's biggest bet.

With this in mind, Guri rushed to where Kai was, determined to steal the ball.

He was able to get a hold of it for a second, making him smirk.

However, as he attempted to push it away from Kai's grasp, it just wouldn't budge.

Guri was once again surprised. Was Kai actually gripping the ball with such strength?

Guri frowned and attempted to do so once again—stronger this time.

However, Kai, sensing another presence behind him, shifted the ball to his other hand, causing Guri to topple to the ground from the sudden lack of resistance.

Then, even with Guri on the ground, Kai shot from where he was.

Swoosh.

55-59.

Kai descended to the ground, landing just right before Guri.

A dark shadow loomed over Guri's figure, and as he looked up, he couldn't see anyone but Kai.

Guri felt defeated...utterly defeated.

Meanwhile, Kai smiled, feeling like he had just won the lottery.

If Kai had met Guri back then, he would have undoubtedly had a harder time.

However, he was now on a different level.

He was now an Elite, of course.
